Let Food Be Your Helper,  Not Your Stressor

If you’re in your 40s or 50s and finding that food feels more confusing (or frustrating) than it used to, you’re not alone. I hear it all the time from women I coach: “I used to eat whatever and feel fine, now everything feels like a trigger!”

Let’s start with a gentle reminder:

Food isn’t something you need to get “right.”

It’s not a test, it’s not a rulebook and it certainly shouldn’t be a source of stress. At its best, food should support you, energise you and bring you comfort and connection.

In my Facebook group this week, we’ve been talking about small, supportive changes that make a real difference. Especially when hormones, stress and sleep aren’t playing nice.

One habit that kept coming up again and again?

Getting more variety, especially from plants!

Now, before you worry I’m about to tell you to go full vegan or live on green smoothies… I promise, that’s not what this is about. It’s about gentle shifts that work with your life. Not against it!

Here’s what supportive eating can look like:

• Adding a handful of berries or flaxseed to your breakfast

• Roasting an extra tray of veg to keep in the fridge for easy dinners (my weekly go-to)

• Tossing a spoonful of chickpeas, lentils or seeds into your salad or soup

These aren’t big changes, but they’re powerful. More plant diversity means better gut health, steadier energy, and fewer “what’s going on with my digestion?” days.

Real Life, Real Results

One of my 1:1 clients shared a brilliant win this week:

She added just two new veggies to her weekly meals and said she finally felt more regular, less sluggish and much more comfortable in her clothes. That’s without cutting anything out or counting a single calorie.

This is exactly what I want more women to feel. Nourished, not restricted. Confident, not confused.
