All or Something — My Working Holiday Mindset

This week, I’m heading off on a little working holiday — part rest, part work and a big part family time.

I used to think I had to pick between being all in or all out — either keeping every habit perfectly in place or completely switching off and dealing with the guilt later. But the truth is, life doesn’t work like that — especially when you’re juggling work, family and midlife changes.

Instead, I’m leaning into what I call my All or Something approach — the same one I encourage my clients to use. It’s a flexible mindset that helps you stay consistent with healthy habits, even when life gets busy or you’re away from your usual routine.

What All or Something Looks Like for Me This Week

  •  I’ll do some work, but not everything — enough to stay connected without losing rest time.

  •  I’ll move my body, maybe a short run or some strength training — but without pressure.

  •  I’ll eat mostly healthy meals, but I’ll also enjoy local food and a drink or two.

  •  I’ll spend quality time with my family, fully present and unplugged.

My Non-Negotiables While Away

💧 Drink plenty of water — hydration makes a huge difference, colder weather and heating on makes me feel dry.

🚶‍♀️ Get my walks in — fresh air is magic for my mood, focus and energy.

😴 Prioritise sleep — because everything feels harder when I’m tired.

Why All or Something Works

The All or Something mindset is about progress, not perfection.

It’s not about pausing your goals; it’s about adapting to real life so you can keep your momentum without burning out.

So while I’m away, I’ll keep showing up — just in a way that fits real life right now. And that’s what I want for you too.

Your Turn

What would your All or Something week look like?

How could you stay consistent with your healthy habits — movement, sleep, hydration or nutrition — even when life feels full?
