What to Expect When You Start Personal Training

Starting personal training can feel like a big step — especially if you’ve tried things before that didn’t quite fit or you’re not sure where to begin again.

Most of the women I work with come to me wanting to feel stronger, more confident and more in control of their health — without extremes or pressure.

So here’s a clear look at what actually happens when you get started.

It Starts With a Conversation

There’s no jumping straight into a workout.

Once you get in touch, I’ll ask you to complete a simple health and lifestyle questionnaire. This gives me an initial picture, but the real value comes from our consultation.

We’ll talk through:

  • Your health and any past injuries

  • Your experience with exercise

  • What’s felt challenging recently

  • What you’d like to move towards

This is about understanding you properly, not rushing into a plan.

Your Assessment: Understanding Your Starting Point

From there, we move into an assessment.

This isn’t about testing you or pushing limits, it’s about observing how your body moves.

I’ll look at:

  • Posture and any imbalances

  • Strength and control

  • Flexibility and mobility

This helps me build a programme that supports your body, rather than working against it.

Training That Feels Supportive (and Actually Works)

My approach isn’t based on quick fixes or drastic routines.

Instead, we focus on progressive, structured strength training — building things up gradually, in a way that feels manageable and consistent.

That means:

  • Working at your current level

  • Adapting around your lifestyle and energy

  • Creating sessions that feel challenging, but not overwhelming

The goal is for you to leave each session feeling stronger, not exhausted.

Support Beyond the Session

Your progress doesn’t stop when the session ends.

Alongside your training, you’ll have:

  • Training plans to guide you between sessions

  • Simple support around nutrition, habits and lifestyle

  • Ongoing guidance so you’re not second-guessing what to do

It’s about creating structure and clarity.

Who This Is For

I mainly work with women 38+ who want to improve their strength, fitness, and overall health — often after a period of feeling stuck or inconsistent.

If you’re based in Ingatestone or nearby villages like Mountnessing, Margaretting, Stock or Blackmore, sessions are designed to fit around your life and environment.

What You Can Expect to Feel

While physical changes do come, what most clients notice first is:

  • Feeling stronger in everyday life

  • More confident in how they move

  • Less confusion about what they “should” be doing

  • A sense of consistency without extremes
